Seventeen groups from different schools of the municipality ( 14 Public Elementary Schools, Tagudin National High School, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College and Tagudin Institute of Science and Technology Foundation, Inc.) displayed their dancing skills in the Street Dancing Competition, May 2, 2006.

They presented in two areas : Street Parade and Showdown at the Municipal Auditorium. Mascots from Jollibee and Purina added joy to all most especially the children.

Tagudin National High School emerged as the best street dancers with Ambalayat Elementary School in the second place and Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College as the 3rd placer.

Dr. Buenafe Medrano, Tagudin District Supervisor, is the Chairperson of this Committee.

Municipal Officials and employees headed by Mayor Jun, National Line Agencies, Non-Government Organizations, Private Organizations and Tagudinians joined in the Civic Parade, May 2, 2006. The 17 groups of street dancers likewise displayed their dancing skills as part of the Street Dancing Completion - Street Parade Portion.

The presence of Jollibee and Purina mascots added color to this parade.

TIKANLU Grand Medical-surgical Mission:
Fulfilling "Payback Time"


One of the prestigious highlights of the 2nd Tikanlu Festival, Tagudin Town Fiesta 2006 is the 1st Tagudinian Grand Medical-Surgical Mission sponsored by Tagudinian Health Professionals and Volunteers of the USA, initiated by Dr. Francis Ong of Orlando, Florida and organized by Ms. Ave Pimo of the Eastern Tagudinians Association(ETA).

This said Mission is very timely and symbolic in this year's theme " Panagsubalit Ti Ingunguten Nga Ili A Naggappuan". Almost a hundred Tagudinian Balikbayans came home for this very noble and selfless deed - a mission for a Samaritan and humanitarian cause in the service of fellow Tagudinians.

This 1st Grand Medical-Surgical Mission is of two subsections - Hospital and Field. Hospital site is at the Southern Ilocos Sur District Hospital (SISDH), Bio, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur for the surgical aspect and is of continuous operations starting May 2 until May 4, and for the second subsection is for the Field, which is divided into 3 areas : May 2 at Barangay Pacac, May 3 at Cabulanglangan and May 4 at Tampugo.

Jamille Lardizabal is Bb. Tagudin - Perlas Ti Amburayan 2006

Miss Jamille Lardizabal of Barangay Borono won the much-coveted title Bb. Tagudin - Perlas Ti Amburayan 2006 in the Search held on the evening of May 6, 2006. Eleven contestants from different barangays in Tagudin joined in this prestigious Search.

These 11 contestants competed in major awards, minor and special awards, with the following results:

Aliba, a nurse, educator and businessman, Ms. Christina Joy Lapitan, a SAS alumnae and a Senior Bill Drafter in the Senate, Mr. Dennis Caburnay a Banking and Finance graduate and President of the Tagudinians of Vancouver, Canada, who is presently employed in Canada as a Registration Officer, and Ms. Beatriz Magno, Chairman of the Panel of Judges and a former Beauty Queen in the year 1972.

Gays from as far as from Malate, Manila, Caloocan City, Baguio City, La Union and here in the Ilocos competed in the Search for Miss Gay Tagudin 2006. Their aesthetic skills, beauty, talent and intelligence were displayed for this much-coveted title.

May 5 is a night of recognition and dancing for all Tagudinian balikbayans, OFW's and professionals.

SPM Jose Bunoan, Jr.SPM Meljohn Verzosa, Mayor Jun, and members of the municipal council graced this affair. Nicole Anderson was their celebrity guest for the evening.

In grateful recognition for the noble involvement and participation of all balikbayans , most especially for the successful 1st Tagudinian Grand Medical-Surgical Mission, Mayor Jun awarded Certificates of Appreciation to all of them.

Gov. Chavit graces Tagudin Grand Ball & Coronation

The eve of May 4, 2006 is the Grand Ball and Coronation, where Miss Janelle Sison Velo, sponsored by the LGU, was crowned Miss Tagudin 2006 by Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson.

Joana Marie Zamora, sponsored by National Line Agencies was the 1st Princess, Divine Grace Fabro of Non-Government Organizations as 2nd Princess and Jennifer Belmonte, SK Candidate, as Muse.

Other dignitaries and guests include Rosales, Pangasinan Mayor and Mrs. Ricardo Revita, SPM Jeremiah Singson, SPM Alex Bistoyong, SPM Jose Bunoan, SPM Meljohn Verzosa, Ex-Chairman of Board of Equitable PCI Bank, Mr. George Go, Mayor Jun, Vice Mayor Peter Manzano and members of the Municipal Council, Barangay Officials and Tagudinian Balikbayans, who enjoyed the night dancing to the music of Angel Orchestra. They too, awarded the members of the Royal Court with bouquets, sashes and trophies.

Gov. Chavit gave financial aid to the 43 Barangays through ABC President Alicia Lorena.

Towards the end of the program, Miss Kristine Jacca, ex-member of the Viva Hotbabes sung to the audience.

Marching Bands from eleven (11) Public Elementary Schools of Tagudin - Tagudin Central School, Becques Elementary School, Libtong Community School, Bimmanga Elementary School, Pudoc West Elementary School, Cabugbugan Community School, Garitan Elementary School, Ambalayat Elementary School, Las-ud Elementary School, San Pedro Community School, and Ag-aguman Elementary School gave their best shots as they competed for the Best Marching Band title.

Almost fifty bikers raced the 60-kilometer distance from Narvacan Junction to Caltex Station in Dardarat, May 3, 2006 in the SPM Mejohn 'MJ' Verzosa Bikefest 2006. They started at 7:00 a.m. in Narvacan and rached Tagudin in barely 30 minutes.

Said bikers were grouped into five teams, each team with an identifying color, sponsor and marshalls:

Ten teams with 2 participants each raced in the 4-kilometer 1st Rakethon, May 3, 2006. Said teams raced the distance starting off at Barangay Becques finishing at Sitio San Roque in Barangay Dardarat.

Barely an hour after their starting time at 8:37 a.m., three teams emerged as winners:

1st - Arnel Aden and Robert Cabatu - 37 minutes
2nd - Robert Ader and Arnold Ader - 38 minutes
3rd - Reynaldo Lardizabal and Oscar Ringor - 42 minutes

This event, being the 1st of its kind held during the Town Fiesta, drew an audience along the shorelines of the barangays from Becques to Dardarat.

As part of the Education Day, the DepEd Field Demonstration was held on the afternoon of May 2, 2006 at the Municipal Auditorium where 20 Public Elementary Schools participated and displayed their talents, abilities, and aesthetic proficiency in this area.

There were three(3) categories presented as follows:
1. Interpretative Dances presented by 4 Public Elementary Schools;
2. Dance Calisthenics presented by 4 Primary Schools; and
3. Folk Dances presented by 12 Schools.

Miss Barangay and Huwarang Pamilya 2006

The 43 barangays of the town, grouped into 8 districts, each with a District Councilor, had their Night dubbed as " Barangay Night" with the Coronation of Miss Barangay 2006 and the awarding of the Huwarang Pamilya for 2006.

Hon. Eric D. Singson, Congressman for the 2nd District of Ilocos Sur was the Crowning Guest and Keynote Speaker for Miss Barangay, Rose Mary Lazo of District I, with Hon. Ma. Theresa Laranang as District Councilor. The other members of the Royal Court are:

Richel Ann is Miss Education 2006

The Search for Miss Education 2006 had its Coronation Night last May 2, 2006. Three candidates from the educational institutions of Tagudin vied for the title Miss Education 2006.

Richelle Ann Laranang Carbonell, an incoming senior student of Tagudin National High School, was crowned as Miss Education 2006. Elailah Jane Lastimoza of the DepEd Public Elementary Schools as 1st Princess and Kaye Ann Rosario Dela Cruz of Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, Tagudin Campus, as 2nd Princess. Procedds from this Search will be used for school projects.

Hon. SPM Jose V. Bunoan, Jr. was the Crowning Guest and Keynote Speaker for the evening. Municipal Officials and heads of Public Elementary, High School, College and Vocational Schools attended this affair together with their administration, faculty and staff.

Tikanlu Food Fest 2006

Tinubong, Tinudok, Kankanen (sinan-suso, sinuman) and Lubi-lubi are the native delicacies Tagudin is known for.

In the afternoon of May 1, 2006, the Tikanlu Food Festival was held along the western side of the plaza fronting the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair Booths where the above-mentioned delicacies were prepared and cooked by the participants/contestants.

The Winners for the different categories are:

"Idi - Ita"

The 2nd highlight of the Cultural Showcase which is the Tikanlu Cultural Show immediately followed the Unveiling of the Giant Inkiwar. This Show, with the theme : "Idi-Ita" is a showcase of dances for the previous years and at present, as performed by the ASAP Tagudin Cultural Dancers.

A variety of dances from the past - "tiksiw", ethnic, binhi, "pokritos" (courtship dance), Ballroom Dances - boogie, cha-cha, tango and swing, and modern dances were presented.

This 2-hour Cultural Show is chaired by Mrs. Jocelyn Lamadrid.

Giant Inkiwar unveiled

The much-awaited unveiling of the 10 meter diameter "Giant Inkiwar"(sticky rice cooked with coconut milk and muscuvado brown) was revealed by Mayor Jun, May 1, 2006. Various media groups came to witness and cover this said event.

This 10-meter diameter Inkiwar was made from 250 gantas (10 cavans at 60 kilos/cavan) of sticky rice ("diket"), 100 pieces of coconut, 30 pieces of coconut "latik" and 125 gantas (5 cavans) of muscuvado brown, prepared and cooked by about 200 people. 1 mini-dump truck of banana leaves was used as covering for the giant "bilao" made from 150 pieces of bamboo - a record worthy of being an entry to the Guiness Book of World Records.

After the Unveiling, this delicious and yummy native rice cake delicacy was distributued to all Tagudinians, balikbayans, guests and visitors.

The Unveiling of the Giant Inkiwar is the opening salvo of the Tikanlu Cultural Showcase chaired by Ms. Marina Balicoco and Ms. Adelaida Corpuz.

Motocross - 2nd Mayor Verzosa Cup

More than 5000 spectators gathered to witness the 2nd Mayor Verzosa Cup Invitational Motocross 2006 held last April 30, 2006.

Agri-Trade Fair opens

The 2nd Tikanlu Festival, Town Fiesta 2006 formally opened with its 1st activity - the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair, April 29, 2006.

Booths lined the western side of the plaza that are representative of the 8 districts of the municipality, National Line Agencies, Non-Government Organizations and Private Organizations. Agricultural fruits and products are being showcased by each booth as they compete in the "Search for the "Pinaka" Crops", one of the main highlights of this event.

Regional Director Nestor Domenden of the Department of Agriculture, San Fernando City, La Union was the Guest of Honor and Speaker in the Opening Program with the theme : "Agrikultura Sanggirtayo Agturong Panagrang-ay". At the same time, Dir. Domenden also did the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon together with Hon. Mayor Jun Verzosa, Vice Mayor Peter Manzano and the members of the Municipal Council.

These booths are open from April 29 to May 8, 2006, where everyone is cordially invited.

This event is chaired by Mr. Reynard Andaya.

Part of the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair are the Search for the Most Outstanding Farmer, Best Booth and "Pinaka" for Agricultural Products. Following are the winners in the above-mentioned categories:
