Bagulin goat raisers visit Tagudin

Traditionally, goat raising has been common to barangay folks with the practice of tethering ("wayway system"). They bring the goats early in the morning to the fields to graze, then bring them back to their shelter in the late afternoon. This method is widely practiced among goat raisers, up to now, not knowing that tethering early in the morning is harmful to their animals because parasites are still at the upper portion of the leaves of grasses and the goats could easily eat them up while grazing. These parasites will cause scouring, liverflukes and other parasitic diseases especially during rainy season which greatly affect the health of the animals.

It is in this juncture that the Local Government of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, through the initiative of Mayor Jun, coordinated with the Department of Agriculture, RFU I, San Fernando City, La Union, conducted the Farmer Livestock School on Integrated Goat Management to the different barangays to educate goat raisers. This training helps the raisers to improve their management system and contibute a lot in the success of this endeavor.
