Tampugo
BRIEF HISTORY
Before the Spanish-American War, the name of this Barrio did not yet exist. However, when the Americans won the battle and took over the island from the Spaniards, this place had been recognized. Education was given importance for the people and the school building was constructed. Agriculture was very important to them so the system for increasing food production was introduced.
During that time, the western side of the now national highway is the only part that was swampy and where rice grows well. It is the haven for “Pugo Birds” and rice paddies are their breeding grounds.
One day, an old man saw many “pugo” birds and eggs. This gave him the idea to name the place as “TAMPUGO”, coming from the name of the bird “Pugo” and connected to the word “Tam” from the Ilocano word “timpuyog” which means unity of the people residing in that place.
