BRIEF HISTORY

During the Pre-Spanish period, old folks narrated that the first residents who stayed in the barangay were the people displaced from their former Barangay called “BARITAO”, which was destroyed by the big flood in the Amburayan River that occurred sometime between 1905 – 1910.  After the great flood, the people of the said barrio looked for higher places for them to build their new homes.

Two kind-hearted families from the Poblacion, the Villanuevas and the Someras, willingly gave portions of their land which was at that time called “BUCAO”.

The place was really a forest where towering buri palms, giant tamarind and acacia trees are seen.  A large portion of the said place was covered with thick cogon grass where wild chickens were seen roaming.

These poor families from Baritao lost no time in cleaning a parcel of lot enough for each family to build a new home.  About twenty(20) to thirty (30) occupied the eastern portion that belonged to the Someras and the same number of families occupied the western portion that belonged to the Villanuevas.  Later on, Rev. Florimundo Carlo, CICM, then the Parish Priest of Tagudin named the eastern portion or sitio as SAN MIGUEL, the name that it carries up this time.
