Salvacion

BRIEF HISTORY

Barangay Salvacion is geographically situated along the riverbanks of the Amburayan River and about 1.5 kilometers along the southern foot of the rugged hills southeast of the town proper of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur.

Old folks have it that the name “SALVACION” was coined after the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary that was saved from the schoolhouse burned by the Japanese soldiers during the war.

The first residents were the people who were displaced from their former barangay that was totally destroyed by a big flood on the river of Amburayan sometime between 1905 and 1910.  The people looked for higher places for them to build their new houses.  Two kindhearted families from the town proper, the Villanuevas and Someras, willingly gave portions of their lands.  The place was a forest where towering buri palms, giant tamarinds and acacia trees were seen.  A large portion of the said place was covered with thick cogon grasses where wild chickens were roaming then.  These families spent a lot of their time to clean parcels of land enough for them to build a new house.

About twenty to twenty five families occupied the eastern part that belonged to the Someras and about that same number settled on the western part belonging to the Villanuevas.  Later on, Rev. Father Florimond Carlu, CICM, then the Parish Priest of Tagudin named the eastern portion as Sitio San Miguel and the western Sitio, he names as Barangay Salvacion.
