Pudoc East
BRIEF HISTORY
Barangay Pudoc East, is one of the 43 barangays comprising the Municipality of Tagudin, Province of Ilocos Sur. This barangay is situated in the southern most part of the municipality. It is bounded on the east by barangay Lantag, on the west by barangay Pudoc West, on the north by Barangay Baritao and on the south by the Amburayan River and on the other bank is Barangay Consuegra of the Municipality of Bangar, La Union. The total land area of this barangay is 128.9022 hectares.
It was formerly called “PERPIRUKA” after the pepper eating bird. Pepper plants mysteriously grew abundantly and these birds are fond of eating the small fruits of the plant. In the early days, the inhabitants did not know to which Municipality they belonged as the barrio between Tagudin and Bangar was not yet defined. But as time went on, the Amburayan River changed its course leaving the barangay on its northern bank. There was an agreement between this two municipalities that all lands south of the river belongs to Bangar, La Union and all north of the river belongs to Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. With the passage of RA 2370 known as the barrio chapter, Pudoc East is part of Tagudin.
Pudoc East derived its name from “Pud-oc” a warrior from Pudoc West, formerly called as “Guitan”. Pud-oc was a brave and mighty warrior who was able to protect both Pudoc East and West (then Guitan) from pirates and attacks from other tribes. Thus, when he died, the place was named in his honor and was later subdivided into Pudoc East and Pudoc West.
