Pacac
BRIEF HISTORY
Pacac is one of the eminent barangays in Tagudin. It has five(5) sitios with a total area of 124.5816 hectares and a population of 839 as of 2008. It is richly blessed with towering trees and other natural resources. Most of the people depend on the marine resources and on farming.
In the 1898, Regino Valdez, who then was popularly known as “Mang Kimong” was born. He was greatly admired because of his love and concern for the environment. Species found within the area can be easily named and recognized by “Mang Kimong”. When he was 20 years old in 1918, two American soldiers visited the area. He was so friendly that he easily caught the attention of the soldiers. They took him as their guide.
On their way, the soldiers noticed a big and tall trees growing abundantly in the area. They began asking questions to Mang Kimong. No matter how much he wanted to answer their questions, he could not do do because he could not understand their language. The American soldiers were so amazed at the trees – so tall, sturdy and with large, green leaves. Suddenly, one of the soldiers pointed to the top of a tree. Mang Kimong though that the soldier wanted to know the name of tree, so he immediately replied: “PACAC Sir!”. The soldiers thinking that PACAC was the name of the place nodded. The people too, got used to calling the place PACAC that up to this time, it is still as such.
