Lubnac
BRIEF HISTORY
No one knows exactly how the Barangay got its present name “Lubnac”. However, as per accounts of the old folks of the place (or most probably the oldest residents), it was previously called “CASAGATAN” which, in the local vernacular means “where the molave trees grow”.
During the early part of the Spanish Regime in the Philippines, the road network in the area was not good. Because of this, the prices of commodities from Cervantes and other places near it, were very high because of the high cost of transporting them.
There was one time during the rainy season when a group of merchants from the northern section of La Union travelled to Cervantes with merchandise to sell. They took the trail northward at the foot of the mountain where people and animals used to travel/pass. They found it very difficult to progress because the mud was knee-high. Due to this experience, they called the area “CALUBNACAN”. Later, the place, now a barangay, has been named as “LUBNAC”.
