Dardarat
BRIEF HISTORY
Barangay Dardarat, which is famous for it’s sandy and scenic beaches, is situated along the China Sea on the west, the National highway on the East, bounded by the Filmag Road on the North and on the South by the Municipal Cemetery.
According to our forefathers, when the Spaniards came to the place they were extremely attracted to it. They then asked the natives the name of the place to which the native chanted loudly “SAN PEDRO” in honor of their Patron Saint, Saint Peter. The Spaniards however thought of a more appropriate name and they had chosen “DARDARAT” which means full of sand. Since then Dardarat became the adopted name of the place.
Dardarat has a total land area of 73.8282 hectares.
Barangay Dardarat has the oldest existing elementary school in Tagudin, formerly administered by a chain of private schools but was later handed to the Department of Education Culture and Sports. We also have a Day Care Learning Center wherein more than 50 pre-schoolers are benefited.
Barangay Dardarat has a total population of 1,543.7/100(44.7%) percent of which is of voting age, 16.8% pre-schoolers and 38.5% are of school age.
Barangay Dardarat is mainly a commercialized area having business establishments ranging from restaurants, grocery stores, and sari-sari stores, coffee shops, rice mills, welding shops, gasoline station and the hollow block making industry, which all help in providing employment to our constituents. Agriculture is also one of the main sources of income of the residents where they enjoy two or three cropping seasons throughout the year because of the abundant supply of water. Others resort to fishing on the nearby shore situated east of the barangay.
