Cabulanglangan
BRIEF HISTORY
The exact founding of Barangay Cabulanglangan was never known but there is one interesting story on how said barangay got its name.
During the early part of the 20th century, barangays then called barrios, were ruled by barrio lieutenants called in the vernacular as “Cabo”. Municipalities composing of different barrios were also then held by Municipal Presidents. Municipal Presidents usually call on all barrio lieutenants to attend regular meetings to inform on various community concerns. However, the barrio lieutenant of the place was then so lazy that he posted a lot of absences during meetings called in town by the municipal president. When a decree issued by the government to name the existing villages then, the residents recalled their “cabo” who was then always absent. Thus the words “Cabo” and “Langlangan” were joined to derive the barangay’s present name, Cabulanglangan.
Barangay Cabulanglangan was one of the original barrio ever established in Tagudin and its territory extended westward up to the present site of the Tagudin National High School and the Tagudin Campus of the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College and southward to western Cabaroan as evidenced but existing tax declarations then issued to land owners and still available on record. Today, the barangay which is one of the duly registered indigenous cultural communities, only covers the area presently inhabited by its residents.
Farming is still the major source of livelihood for many residents. Through sheer patience and hard work, a few citizens were able to obtain education in distinguished colleges and universities and are now successful in their chosen endeavors. A few also have gone to work abroad which have given hope for their families to rise from impoverished live.
The barangay is site of Landmark projects like the Municipal Controlled Dumpsite of Tagudin and Sun Cellular cell site. It is presently inhabited by about 500 people headed by barangay captain MAXIMO Z. LAPLANA, JR.
