BRIEF HISTORY

Barangay Borono is one of the 43 barangays of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, 5.4 kilometers away from the Poblacion, almost 84.6 kilometers away from the Provincial Capitol. It is located along the National Highway. Most of the populace is Roman Catholic in religion. The major sources of livelihood are farming, fishing and carpentry. The major locally produce products/raw materials are rice, corn and onions

Long ago, Tagudin has only four(4) barangays.  Borono did not yet exist by that time.  It was still a part of Barangay Becques.  Farming was a major source of livelihood.  People planted rice, vegetables, onions and tobacco.

One day, an old man came to the place to sell dried tobacco leaves.  This old man was from Kalinga.  The people soon found out that his product was very sweet and tasty.  Thus, many of them ordered tobacco seeds for them to plant.  Later on, this old man again came to sell his commodity.  This time, the people asked his name, as they forgot do so during his first visits.  He told them that his name was “BRUNO”.  From that time on, the people have always been looking for that certain taste of tobacco coming from the old man Bruno and they even adopted his name for their place which eventually became known as “BORONO” .
