Bimmanga

BRIEF HISTORY

During the Spanish Regime, Bimmanga River was very deep, passable only by a big boat called “PUNTING”.  This was used by merchants selling different sizes of pots. Along the riverside, just south of the Barangay proper, was a market place where the “Punting” landed and unloaded their earthen pots to sell.

One day,  some Spaniards came to ask the name of the place.  Since the merchant could not understand the language and thinking that they were asking the name of the merchandise(pots) he was selling, he replied “BANGA”, and kept on repeating the word.

Barangay Bimmanga thus, derived its name from the Ilocano word “BANGA”, meaning pot.  It is also in this barangay where the TAGUD industry originated.  TAGUD is one of the original sources of income of the residents of Bimmanga.
