Alog is one of the “sitios” comprising the northeastern
barangay of Pallogan, Tagudin, Ilocos Sur.
One may wonder why the place is called “Alog” when its location is almost atop
the mountains and in contrast, the vernacular word refers to a tract of marshy
land located at the lowest part of plains and valleys. The place is inhabited by
about twenty families who grow a variety of crops – peanuts, corn, vegetables
and root crops aside from the existence therein of fruit-bearing mango trees
considered to be the sweetest in all of Tagudin.
Before the Verzosa Administration, it takes an hour or two hike from the
barangay road to the said sitio. No other means of transportation except by
foot, can reach the area. The residents hike through the steepy foot trails
overlooking the Amburayan River and the other barangays of the town – Ambalayat,
Bio and Becques. During the rainy season, the foot trail is slippery and
dangerous.
Also, since time immemorial, there is no electricity in Sitio Alog. It was only
in the month of August when the present administration, headed by Hon. Mayor
Roque S. Verzosa, Jr. that the said sitio, for the first time, experienced the
joy of having electricity. Together with some PNP Personnel, the Special
Operations Group and some employees of the Local Government Unit, the first
Generator was brought to them. The residents were very much grateful to the
present Mayor, since it is the first time that an elected Mayor came to visit
their place.
Last December of 2005, the present administration also started its road
development project for Sitio Alog. The once foot trail is now a road passable
by means of vehicles – motorcycles, jeeps, small trucks, and cars.
Indeed, this is another living testament of the true and dedicated public
service of the Verzosa Administration. |
